MOBICON Supporting the Mobile Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals!

MOBICON is proud to support the MSPCA (Mobile Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)! With the economy having slowed to a crawl, many people can no longer afford to properly care for their pets. A lot of these animals are brought to shelters or even abandoned. The MSPCA needs our help more than ever in order to care for the massive influx of pets coming to their shelter.

Not only does the MSPCA welcome monetary donations, they also need donations of pet food (canned or dry) and pet toys (for dogs and cats). We encourage our members to bring either some pet food or toys to MOBICON XV to help meet the needs of the MSPCA. If you would prefer to make a direct monetary donation, you can mail a check or money order (made out to MSPCA) to the following address:

MSPCA
620 Zeigler Circle West
Mobile, Alabama 36608

Please take some time to visit their website and read about their local mission.

Mobicon is HERE!

The wait is finally over, folks! Registration opens in just under 12 hours from now, and the con will be officially open for guests at Noon on Friday, the 20th! A lot of people have done a lot of hard work to get this far, and we couldn't be more excited to bring you our Biggest, Baddest, Mobicon yet! Be sure to follow our Facebook and Twitter pages (see those 2 buttons above this paragraph, in the black bar?) during the convention for up to the minute happenings during the weekend. Also, don't forget that our Media Guest this year has been changed to the wonderful Robert Picardo, who volunteered to take Ethan Phillip's place when he had to cancel due to a family emergency. Our thoughts are with Ethan, and we hope he and his family are well.

As you're making your last minute preparations for the weekend, remember to bring the essentials: Your ID, some spending money, booze, a good attitude, Red Bull, more booze, your Orion Slave Girls, and for the benefit of everyone else at the convention... a bar of SOAP! Don't be THAT GUY this weekend... Bath or Shower at least once a day, OK? Do it for the kids! Your fellow con guests will thank you!

Anyway, I'm going to leave you with a few media links to tide you over until tomorrow, when the party starts. Here's an interview that Don and Wayne did with the Outer Alliance. It's a good listen, go check it out! You can also check out Mobicon being interviewed by the local Fox 10 TV station.

Also, for those of you who are interested, there will be a Paranormal Writing Contest held at Mobicon 14 this year. The details are behind that link, but here are a few of the highlights: Keep it 500-2500 words, keep it clean, and all submissions must be in by Saturday at Midnight. There will be winners in the 12-18 category and 19+ category, and yes folks, there will be prizes! Click the link to get the full details.

We hope everyone who makes it has a blast at the convention this weekend! Be sure to take lots of pictures, make new friends, and enjoy yourself thoroughly! We'll see you tomorrow!

Mobicon is Almost Here... And then Suddenly...!

Hey folks!  We hope you're all getting as excited about MOBICON XIV as the rest of us.  It's shaping up to be a good convention this year.  Our guest roster looks good, the hotel is just about booked up, and pre-registration is going well.  Everything is going great.... Until this happened:

Ethan Phillips, our media guest, as of this week, has had to cancel his appearance at our convention due to a family emergency. He apologizes and feels bad for having to cancel an obligation, especially this close to the show. However, he has agreed to be a guest at MOBICON XV, 2012.

Now for the good news: As a favor to his friend Mr Phillips, Robert Picardo has agreed to take Ethan Phillips spot as our headline Media Guest for MOBICON XIV. He played Richard Woolsey on all three of the Stargate franchise's shows (SG1, Atlantis, and SGU) and Dr Lewis Zimmerman on Star Trek: Voyager among many other roles. He has already announced that his autographs will be $20 in the merchant room. Please go by and pick up your personal autograph and take some time to make him feel welcome.

And lastly, for the more good news: MOBICON will be featured on Fox's Studio 10 Wednesaday May 18! Wayne Hergenroder, President of MOBICON XIV and Bryan Whatley, staff member and member of Ghost Hunters of the South, will be interviewed about the convention during the show. Be sure to set your DVR so you don't miss it.

Now for an appeal: The Bay Area Food Bank, our charity, needs more help now than ever. They are facing a lot with helping with the tornado disaster relief. If you would like to help, bring non-perishable food items to put in the donation bins that we normally have. You can also bring clothing or other household items to be donated and the Bay Area Food Bank will get those items to the areas in affected by the devastation in North Alabama.

Thanks for your time and we'll see you in two weeks. Please pass the word on all of these announcements and the appeal to all of your friends, even if they aren't coming to the convention. They may give you items to bring to donate for them.

The New Mobicon Forums are LIVE!

Hey Folks!  Crash, your friendly neighborhood Webmaster here, with some exciting news!  Our forums have finally gone live on the website!  Just click the 'Community' button on the side navigation, and you'll be redirected to our PHPBB powered Mobicon Forums.  When you're ready to come back to the site, just click the 'Mobicon Main Site' link at the top of the forum list.

Now, I know a lot of you had some issues with our old forums.  I believe the main complain was that they were so locked down that no one could actually publish a post.  People would write something, it would get lost in moderation hell, and the post might or might not show up 2 weeks later.  Well, we've done away with all that crap!  The new forums have been hardened against all the Russian porn-robots and the hacker-spam bots, so we've been able to unlock the forums and let our users post freely!  What a concept, right?

Anyway, our goal with these forums is to make them be a common place for the entire gulf coast community to chat, get to know each other, and plan out conventions and other trips.  By no means do we want to limit our community on our boards.  Everyone is welcome.  You can plan out events, make room and travel arrangements for cons all over the coast, and share photos and stories from your convention shenanigans.

So, click on the community link or go to the forums directly, at the following link:

Enjoy the site!
